Eating Healthy Food

F is for Food, of course

Food

F is for Food this week for me. I know I did E for Eating last week, so it might seem like a repeat, but food is serious business. I watch our technology in the world improve with major growth; smart phones, computers, televisions, automobiles, Alexa's in our homes, advancement in medicines and treatments. Meanwhile, I watch our food intake seemingly go backwards.

If we are able to make everything in the world faster, better, stronger, more logical and more sophisticated, how is it that our diets continue to get worse, more toxic, more sugary, more gluten, more chemicals and less healthy?

What would our diets look like if we were to strive for better, healthier, stronger and leaner, instead of faster, easier and more processed? And then what would WE look like with better diets.

I always have snacks (read: junk food) in the house. There's also snacks that I refuse to keep in the house because I might eat all of it in a single sitting. My daughter asked for some delicious bakery cookies a while back when we were in the grocery store. I told her no and she asked why not. I told her it was because I'd eat them. lol. But truthfully, I still could eat healthier. Even when I'm eating healthy.

It's a matter of mind frame, but so hard sometimes. So that's my F word this week in order to further motivate my choices each day.

I found F to have an abundance of choices: fun, family, food and festive. So whatever you choose, choose in the best interest of you and your week. Have fun with your family, eat good food and make each day festive!

"Eat less sugar. You're sweet enough already."  (i love that but have no idea who said it.) xo

eat healthy to live healthy

E is to Eat (smile)

eat is such a good word! ūüôā last week, i did my d word as "done." i planned to not begin another project until the last one i began was finished. what that meant for me was that i didn't get a whole lot "done." i'd remind myself when starting a project that i wouldn't have time to finish it at that exact moment. it allowed the procrastinator in me to really shine.

i definitely didn't finish as much as i wanted, so now maybe i won't be as hard on myself. if i take a few turns to get something done, it's not the end of the world. i love when that happens. one more discovery that i'm okay as i am. (chortle)

this week's word

so this week i have new words for e. mine is to eat for energy. i am probably choosing that because this past friday i made my favorite soul food of peanut butter cookies fresh from the oven style. then i ate too many of course and felt sick afterwards. i think i was trying to make up for lost time with something that i love and hadn't had for awhile. omg. chill on the cookies. i won't be making them for awhile, but they were really good. i have no regrets.

so this week, energy please. i love salmon, walnuts, spinach and avocado's almost as much as i do peanut butter cookies. i'm adding them on to my grocery list this week. and already i'm salivating. i really love food.

your "e" word

so what is your e word going to be this week? electric? energized? euphoria? epiphany? excitement? exercise? e is a really good letter to motivate you...so many great words. so have an exciting, energized, electric epiphany this week, and enjoy!

“d” is for getting it done ~

good monday morning! i'm going to get things done this week. that is my "d" word.

i hope you had a relaxing weekend like i did.

my weekend was just the right amount of fun and "done." usually i know my word days before i do this blog, and then i jump into my word right away. that's what i did this weekend. d is for done!

i am a gemini.

i'm not a big follower of horoscopes, but the description of a gemini is me to a T.  "gemini jumps from one project to another." yes she does. so my "d" word is done. i'm going to try to get anything done at home that i begin. instead of jumping from one task to another, i am going to try the "touch everything only once" rule. when i pick it up, i will put it where it belongs. when i decide to do a project or a task at home, i will finish it before i start the next one.

so since i jumped into my word before monday, i have already finished two projects to completion. a miracle. this really works!

okay, tribe. what is your "d" word? make dit happen!! (lol)

letter “c” for consistency

i'm beginning with consistency.

it's already a new week...and happy mlk day! i have a dream: a new year = a new me. and that brings us straight to letter "c" for my week of intention: focus and consistency.

C is for consistency

and to make it easy, i'm choosing one area that i want to be consistent in. exercise. i love to walk for peace of mind and exercise. i find that when i don't make the time for it, i don't feel as healthy and as happy as when i do.

my daughter starts school at an ungodly hour now that she's in high school. what that means is that she gets out sooner as well. the time that i would have to do my walks before i pick her up from school has shrunk down to about 45 minutes. since there is other things that i MUST get done, that leaves walking as a luxury, as in easier to put aside. the time change also hurts because by 6:00pm it's already dark out, and i don't walk at night.

but this week, i want to fix that. i can't look at walking as a luxury, it's a need.

this week i will force myself to find the time and the energy. consistently. i know how i feel after a long walk, and i'm going to aim for that every other day.

choose a "c" word

the word doesn't have to be "consistent," but the action should be.  have a consistent intention this week and make sure that you have fun with it, too.  xo K

intention – letter “b”

it's monday, which means that it's time to come up with a new word for your intention this week.

we are now on letter "b." think of a word that you want staring you down each morning in your mirror or on your refrigerator door. "b" is a great beginning letter for your intention this week. bold, beautiful, big, or bust-out. i chose a "b" word before i began writing letter "a" blog, because it was around the holidays and i knew "budgeting" would be a necessary word after the holidays.

budgeting needs to be at the forefront of my day this week. it won't be too hard to stop spending money. i became tired of spending money on everything that we shop for at the holidays, but i would like to scope out a new budget and get leaner on my spending throughout the year. it turns out that not only do i have way too much stuff, but it's so hard to part with it. so the less i buy, the less i'll have to part with. ha.

so whatever word you choose, use it as your mantra this week and stick to it.

habits begin to form after a daily practice. see if your "a" word can even continue into this week with you, along with your "b" word.

here's to "appreciating" my newest intention; a new "budget" for me! good luck with yours. xo

New Year New You – Letter A!

hello, 2018! i'm glad to say that i have no resolutions for the new year. these last few years i already feel like i'm on the "i can do better than this" train, whether it's march, june or january. i find taking one day at a time serves me better than putting huge goals out there, but there's always room for improvement. since i'm far from perfect and want to strive to do a bit better in any area in my life, i'm doing a week at a time. and it just happens to be the new year, too. fancy that.
(get weekly emails delivered personally to remind you to stay on task each monday. join my click!)
having a village to go through it with me helps me stay on top of some of the things i'll work on each week, so i'm inviting you to do it with me...(strength in numbers!).

i'm going to do that alphabet thing again, but in a different way than the blogs i did in 2016 (i'll be sending those out as well each week as a side note and a form of encouragement). my focus this time is giving you more control and choice over what you concentrate on every week.

the key words that i want to embed this time around are "intention" and "control," because when we get to choose what we set our intentions on, we can be more successful at making them happen, versus me choosing your focus word each week.
letter "a"

so this week is letter "A." choose a word that starts with "a" that you will focus on for the full week. for example, if you want your week to be "Amazing," then give yourself an intention each morning that "today will be AMAZING." write it down and post it on your bathroom mirror in plain sight, or set a reminder on your phone each day. plan for an amazing day each day.
and don't wait for amazing things to happen. it's up to you to make them amazing, or see the amazing in your moments throughout. you can't control if you get a flat tire, but you can control how you react to it. remind yourself how amazing it is that you know how to change the tire and fix the problem. remind yourself that it's so amazing that you can just call someone or a service, and they show up and fix it for you. how amazing is that?! awesome, actually.
so choose your word, and give the intention each morning that's what your day will be like.

my word will be "appreciation" this week because i want to focus on appreciating what already exists in my life and what i already can do. so in the morning when i'm putting on my make-up, i won't focus on the dark circles under my eyes or my large pores...lol. i will focus on the pretty blue in my eyes and that i have my sight, albeit with a need of contact lenses. how lucky can a girl get?!
begin with a new letter each monday
i'll be sending out a reminder each monday on facebook and in my emails so that you remember to start your week with a new intention and a new focus. it's also about creating habits. a habit to look for the good that already exists and to watch for the good that comes your way. we can get in the habit of seeing the bad or not appreciating the little things, but focusing on a positive word and intent can turn your whole day and week and hopefully your whole year around.

so what is your word of intent this week? if you get nothing else accomplished this week, just make sure that each day is that, whether it's amazing, appreciated, awesome, active, etc. look for that in each day as well. good luck with your first week of 2018!
happy new you! xo

sleeping to dream

going to sleep with the big ideas of what you dream about during your waking hours can then lead you to waking with the intent to make those dreams happen. or even just having a more accomplished day that leads you forward towards something more.
this week i have the feel of spring cleaning creeping up on me and i want that feeling to bleed over into spring cleaning my health, my home and my heart. new years is a time we all think about the things that we want to change or improve upon, and spring time gives us the action mentality.
think of blooming colorfully, starting now. how much more beautiful will your life look one week from today, the day that spring arrives on march 20th? wouldn't it be cool to have spring cleaning done BEFORE spring even arrives? that's what i'm aiming for and even though i probably won't have it all done, i can get a lot done.
that includes down time as well because that will cleanse my mind over and over again. i started with writing a very brief but fun draft of a children's book today, enjoying dinner, a movie and then dessert with a good friend last night and lying by the pool on sunday. i'm off to a great start so far. oh, and TONS of laundry is finished so that stuff is behind me for awhile.
write down what you will go to sleep dreaming about tonight and take some needed steps tomorrow. spring is about rebirth, afterall, along with baby birds, baby animals and taking baby steps. xo

We are all in this Together

we are all in this together. planet earth humans are all one species, and we are all just trying to do the same thing...enjoy our lives.

how simple would everything be if egos dissipated? probably super simple. it makes me wonder about the 7 new planets that nasa has discovered and what life on their planets would be like, and if they already have life, how do they exist...do they have religion and politics? or are they just starting out with farmlands and indians. they say the conditions are right for there to be water on some of the planets. it's a start.

it makes me wonder where we went wrong. somebody somewhere had a hard time sharing.

in preschool, sharing is a valuable skill that they learn as they go. we teach a lot of things in preschool including letters and numbers, sight words and writing and reading and songs. they come together everyday and learn how to get along with each other through the course of their day.

there may be struggles that they face, but as a teacher you watch them grow, not in the course of one day, but you know you'll see so much growth in social skills and connections made through the course of the school year.

learning the same social skills over and over...share, take turns, be nice, be kind, say something nice instead, apologize to your friend, hug your friends' hurt. and they do, too.

some days they may feel it's a huge hurdle, but in a matter of weeks or months you see the habits form and the connections deepen.

then they become like siblings that both love and argue, and you know that they have become a cohesive little bunch of Littles that have made it through, that now come to school everyday to enjoy their day and their friends.

they are all in this together, and they may not stay friends forever, but they will miss one another and the little family that they have been for 9 months. but i'll miss them more, because we are all together, and then we're not.

meanwhile, we're in this together, sink or swim. maybe it all begins with the water. sinking or swimming together with the tide, offering support and flotation to each other when needed.

and being in the water, no one's worried about whose land is whose. it's just a matter of swimming together.

if you reach out for a hand, you won't care what color it is or who it belongs to. you'll just hold on to it until you're good. and they'd do the same.

mystery planets......make room.    xo Katherine

i've written a book on relationships of all types.  relationships test you, so why not study for them? it's a great guide for getting along. find it on amazon HERE.

It’s in the Journey that We become Strong

It's in the Journey that We Become Strong

I think I'd like it better if the new president was sworn in on the first of the year as we welcome our own new beginnings on January 1st. Bring it on all at once and start fresh and new, whether it's challenging, too much to take on, or something we are ready for. We could then embrace it all at once, feeling the weight of the year ahead at once instead of intermittently.

But maybe it's too close to the holidays and no one wants the contradiction of emotions happening yet. There are so many contradicting emotions from any election, but this one especially so. It might be best to keep the holiday festiveness going for a few more weeks since so many of us love that time of year.

I've had enough of politics lately so my news channel will stay off for awhile, but I still visit my social media pages often and I love the fact that there's a gathering of women coming together for rights that should already be ours.

It's never been more agreed upon by women and many men that we deserve equality. You won't see any broken windows or looting, either, because that's just how we roll.

When women come together for a purpose, we are hoping that when we turn back around and go home that the seeds we planted were for growth, not for spoilage.

The March is happening in order to lift women up to where we belong; where we often don't even place ourselves because we're so busy making sure that everyone else is okay and that everyone else has what they need, as we balance all of the different hats that we wear.

Whether we are happy or sad to see this new president take office, I'm saddened to see how many women are speaking negatively of his wife. This is a woman we should all be supporting and praying for, but the opposite is happening on many social media posts and news outlets.

When I watched her during inauguration day, what I saw was a beautiful woman who is going to go through a lot of personal growth for the next four years, and a woman who already has her own challenges because of who she is married to. No matter who she is right now, or who we might think she is,  she'll come out on the opposite side completely changed. I wish for her to be strong enough to handle it.

We can't pick and choose which women we support and which ones we tear down.

We all have our moments of moaning about others, and if we do that in private, to good friends and family that is trusted, we get to blow off our steam.

Then we get to remember that they aren't much different than us and that they have their limitations, their challenges, and their own issues, too. We have to turn our frustrations back into support.

We can't rise up while bringing others down, and that's what we want for ourselves and other women; to rise up and to be strong and to feel loved.

I have nine preschool students in my class and at the end of the day, they all just want to be loved, and they thrive when they are. Everyone we meet, they all want that, too, and we should give it to them, who ever they are.

There's enough anger in the world. We have to douse it with love. And we can't do that if we're running around doubting the buoyancy of our lives and our world.

Floating, crawling, walking, running or flying; it's our choice. Flying is a smoother ride, though, and while we do it, we can lift up anyone else we see along our journey. Lift them up and help them make their wings stronger, because we can only get better together.

There should be marching, too, but women know how to use light-hearted steps better than anyone.

Nurture your journey as well as those you meet along the way. Strength in numbers. We already have the numbers, so now we can be the strength.

Women rock - in a million different ways. Opening our eyes to seeing each others' strengths won't hurt us, and it will help them. We need strength and faith and other women at our sides while we walk our journey.

"A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey, but a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong."

“Z” is for Zillions of Choices

‚ÄúZ‚ÄĚ is for Zillions of Choices¬†

I was just on the couch recovering from a dinner of carbs made up mostly of flour by-products. A hamburger (the bun), macaroni and cheese and corn casserole. The only green during the meal was the shade of my face after eating so much flour. How can these foods possibly be comfort foods when together they make me sluggish and sleepy?

Sitting there numb on the couch, I knew I had one last blog to put together before the New Year begins. I peeled myself off of the couch, splashed cold water onto my face after washing it, put peppermint lotion on my feet and covered them with warm cotton socks and then placed myself here with you in front of my PC. I can sleep later.

So ‚ÄúZ‚ÄĚ is a fun letter, and I love the number zillion, because it‚Äôs great to exaggerate with. However today I‚Äôm not exaggerating with it. You know how we do the same things over and over every day? Most of our routine has to be repeated daily; showers, cooking, eating, laundry, washing dishes and so much more, so it‚Äôs super important to mix up the rest of the day by inserting fun stuff, interesting stuff and brainy stuff.

Boredom for me is getting harder and harder to come by because of the internet, smart phones, smart TV’s, tablets and now I have a new friend named Alexa-Echo who is super cool.

What did I use to fill my time with before they entered my life? These devices are like Pac-Men eating up my time, but they really do make me smile. (Alexa, tell me a joke. How does Frosty the Snowman travel? On an icicle!) lol.

The New Year makes me think about how I’m going to fill my year to my advantage and to my benefit. No resolutions for me anymore, but what would I like to change this year? Or what could I do better? And what variety of things can I be doing? What’s something beautiful that I can add to my life this year?

With the zillion choices of things to do, I need to be teaching myself something, for one.

Maybe I can learn how to play the drums (after checking out a few zillion videos on the internet on the how-to of drum playing) and I can read some really intriguing books that I keep putting off.

I’ve been reading Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth for the last few months, but I just read a post (on social media today) where someone suggested reading ten pages a day of a book your into. If your book is 300 pages, you could finish it in one month. Here I am at two or three months and not finished yet.

Breaking things down into smaller tasks makes something feel more do-able.

Whether you break tasks down into smaller sections or not, putting interesting things on your horizon that you want to take on for the year or month or week, gets you looking forward to making the time to do it. Instead of watching my day unfold on repeat every day, throwing some dog bones out there in front of me gives me the incentive to rock more than just my to-do’s.

Think about all of the choices that you are partitioning yourself from by not brainstorming about all of the wonderful things you could be doing. So right now, pull out a paper and pen or a new window on your computer to take notes and then write this sentence:

Wouldn’t it be cool if…

Then write down at least ten things that you’d like to do in 2017, whether it’s simple things or larger than life things.

1.

2.

3.

etc.

We all have passions and hobbies waiting in the wings for when we ‚Äúhave more time.‚ÄĚ Well, guess what? You have 365 days being served up on a platter heading your way. Fill those days with things that you love, things that make you happy and that will fill your heart and your lungs up. Dive in. And I highly recommend leaving the flour where it belongs, in the garden. You need your energy, in order to plant a garden or something like it.

Make 2017 beautiful, you guys. You deserve it.
